Where necessity sparked innovation

In 2017, in a small workshop on the edge of Nairobi, Container Works Africa was born — not from a boardroom strategy, but from a conviction that the continent's housing and infrastructure challenges deserved a smarter answer.

Our founder saw what others overlooked: thousands of shipping containers sitting idle across East Africa's ports, each one a structural shell capable of becoming a home, an office, a classroom, a kitchen. The question was never whether it could be done. It was whether it could be done exceptionally well.

"We didn't set out to build the biggest construction company. We set out to build the most resourceful one — turning what the world discards into structures communities can rely on."

From government agencies and NGOs to private developers and entrepreneurs across Kenya and East Africa, our client list grew because word travels fast when a structure outlasts expectations.

Seven years of building forward

Expanding the product range

Commercial stalls, office units, and ablution blocks added to the portfolio, attracting NGO and government project clients for the first time.

20

2020 – 2021

Manufacturing scale-up

State-of-the-art fabrication facilities established. A dedicated team of architects, engineers, and craftsmen allows full customisation for each client brief.

Now

2024 – Present

Leading East Africa's container sector

Recognised as one of the largest suppliers of new and used shipping containers in Kenya and East Africa — with eight distinct service lines and growing.

Three commitments we never compromise

Sustainability

Every container we convert is one fewer structure demanding virgin materials. We build with the future of the continent in mind — not just the deadline in front of us.

Craftsmanship

Meticulous design and precision engineering transform industrial steel into spaces people are proud to inhabit, work in, and return to every day.

Innovation

From roadshow trucks to refrigerated units to modular cottages, we keep asking what else a container can do — and then we build the answer.
